Do I have to maintain my manicure?Great question, thank you for asking! YES, YOUR NAILS ARE AN INVESTMENT. You've spent your time and money to obtain fabulous nails. And to enjoy them for as long as possible, you'll want to care for them between manicures. First and foremost, CUTICLE OIL. Apply as many times as you like, but aim for morning and night. There are many reasons why cuticle oil helps to maintain your manicure, so I wont get into here. We can either chat about it at your appointment or you can find some helpful content over on my Instagram page MOISTURIZE. Now you've oiled your cuticles you want to lock in all that goodness with a delicious smelling Hand Cream. This will create a barrier between your skin and the climate around you, enhancing your skins ability to retain moisture. You can apply hand cream after washing your hands and whenever you feel they need a little extra care NAILS ARE JEWELS NOT TOOLS. Not even the most healthy, most enhanced nails are industrutable. They are cells just like your hair and they can break, so its best to avoid using your nails as an extension of your finger. for example: instead of using your nails to open a tin or can try using a spoon, avoid scratching or peeling things with your nails, flushing toilets can be surprisingly tricky but try using your knuckle same goes for other pressable objects like car seat buckles etc . DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. We all know drinking water is essential to your health... and natural nail health is no exception. Without adequate hydration, nails can become brittle and have the potential break or peel more easily so drink plenty of water and no unfortunately the water in coffee doesn't count. SOMETIMES WATER IS NOT OUR FRIEND. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a hot bath! but its important to minimize your nails exposer to water. Like a sponge, nails absorb water and the longer they are exposed the more they will expand. Your gel, although flexible simply cant expand with the nail which results in the gel lifting from the nail plate. Try keeping your hands above the spa water, I suggest holding a glass of wine and for things like washing dishes, use gloves where possible - remebering to change them regularly to avoid water/moisture accumulating within them. FRIENDS DONT LET FRIENDS PICK OFF THIER NAIL COATING. I know it can be tempting, especially when they annoying snag in your hair or have started to visibly separate from the nail plate, but please DO NOT peel or pick the enhancement from your nail. Here's why... Nail enhancements, be it gel, acrylic and everything else in between, are chemically bonded to the nail. Remember how I said nails are like sponges? well imagine the little holes are filled and layered with a substance that has bonded and then hardened to the sponge. When you pick if off, you will find parts of the sponge have stick to the underside of the substance. This is also true for your nails, layers of your nail plate will stick to the picked of nail product resulting in visibly weakened and damaged nails. Nails can become painful and sensitive to water and because they can not be repaired back to their original state you will need to wait 3-5 months for the new growth to come come through. NAILS DONT BREATHE No need to take a break from your nail enhancements. The cells that make up your nails take oxygen from the blood and once the nail is formed it no longer needs oxygen to function or grow.
